Sherlock Holmes Complete Collection en Inglés
Written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle between the years 1867 and 1927, the legendary Sherlock Holmes used his mastery of deductive reasoning and expert research to solve a series of complex and heartbreaking cases. From his home, 221B Baker Street in London, the legendary Sherlock Holmes (accompanied by his loyal companion and chronicler, Dr. Watson) baffled the cops and became famous the world over for his remarkable remarks and even more eccentric habits.
Since Holmes’s first appearance in “” A Study in Scarlet “” (1887) and “The Hound of the Baskervilles” (1901–1902), through the collection of stories, this edition has Holmes’s entire catalog in a case with 8 volumes.
A study in scarlet – The sign of the four (9789878354750)
Written in 1887, A Study in Scarlet is a detective novel that marks the first appearance of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, who would later become the most famous detective duo in popular fiction. This story is narrated from Dr. Watson’s perspective as he returns to London after being shot and contracting a horrendous illness while serving as a doctor in Afghanistan. Too weak to work, he needs to find a roommate and is introduced to an enigmatic man: private detective Sherlock Holmes. When a body is found in unusual circumstances and Scotland Yard’s officers are inefficient, Holmes is called to help solve the crime, and he invites Dr. Watson to join him. Together they unravel a tangled thread of murders that extend back thirty years.
“The Sign of the Four” (1890), is the second novel featuring Sherlock Holmes written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Doyle wrote four novels and 56 stories starring the fictional detective. The story is set in 1888. “The Sign of the Four” has a complex plot involving service in East India Company, India, the Indian Rebellion of 1857, a stolen treasure, and a secret pact among four convicts (“the Four” of the title) and two corrupt prison guards… and of course, Sherlock Holmes.
The Hound of the Baskervilles (9789878354767)
A strange curse weighs on the Baskervilles since the time of the English Civil War, when Sir Hugo Baskerville abducted and murdered a woman in the mires of Dartmoor only to be killed in turn by a huge demonic hound. Years later, apparitions of a diabolic and supernatural hound are still threatening the members of the Baskerville family. After Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead, Mr. James Mortimer asks Sherlock Holmes for help. In order to solve this case, Holmes will have to travel to the inhospitable and desolate moors of Devonshire.
The valley of the fear (9789878354774)
The Valley of Fear is the fourth and final Sherlock Holmes novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. It is loosely based on the Molly Maguires and Pinkerton agent James McParland. The first book edition was published by George H. Doran Company in 1915. The story starts with Sherlock Holmes receiving a ciphered message from an agent of Professor Moriarty but without the key to the cipher. The book is divided into two parts: The Tragedy of Birlstone and The Scowrers.
The adventures of Sherlock Holmes (9789878354781)
Venture back in time to Victorian London to join literature’s greatest detective team — the brilliant Sherlock Holmes and his devoted assistant, Dr. Watson — as they investigate a dozen of their best-known cases. Originally published in 1892, this is the first and best collection of stories about the legendary sleuth. Featured tales include several of the author’s personal favorites: “A Scandal in Bohemia” — in which a king is blackmailed by a former lover and Holmes matches wits with the only woman to attract his open admiration — plus “The Speckled Band,” “The Red-Headed League,” and “The Five Orange Pips.” Additional mysteries include “The Blue Carbuncle,” “The Engineer’s Thumb,” “The Beryl Coronet,” “The Copper Beeches,” and others.
The memories of Sherlock Holmes (9789878354798)
This volume is composed of several of the most remarkable cases that Sherlock Holmes has ever solved, cases in which Sherlock’s intelligence and Watson’s mastery as a narrator are both admirable. Sherlock Holmes’ fame grew in such a way that Conan Doyle became unendurable and ended up killing him. In the final problem, sober and moving story, in which in an extraordinary way Holmes’s tenderness is translucent through his proverbial impassivity, we witness his disappearance. But the protests of the readers were so many and so violent that, ten years later, Conan Doyle was forced to resurrect him.
The return of Sherlock Holmes (9789878354804)
In “The Final Problem,” the tale that preceded this collection, the world’s most famous detective had a seemingly fatal encounter with his nemesis, Professor Moriarty. When Sherlock Holmes’s devoted fans refused to allow Arthur Conan Doyle to kill their beloved sleuth, the author complied with more stories. This compilation features all thirteen tales, which originally appeared in The Strand Magazine. Holmes returns in “The Adventure of the Empty House”, in which he explains his near-miraculous escape from death and accounts for his lengthy absence to the astonished Dr. Watson. Other mysteries include “The Dancing Men”, involving a series of cryptic threats; “The Six Napoleons”, concerning stolen jewels and images of the French emperor; “The Norwood Builder”, a murderous attempt at revenge; and “The Missing Three Quarter”, in which a rugby player disappears on the eve of a crucial match.
The case-book of Sherlock Holmes (9789878354811)
In “The Case-book of Sherlock Holmes” we appreciate the latest stories that Conan Doyle wrote about Holmes and Watson. These stories reflect the world’s disappointment during the 1920’s, the time in which they were written, and it notices that Doyle takes advantage of new, more open fictional conventions. Compared to previous collections, these stories are darker, they explore topics such as betrayal, mutilation and also contain gothic traces such as vampires, crypts, bloodsuckers at midnight, suicide as a murder weapon and incest are some of the psychological tragedies whose consequences are unraveled by Holmes’ mind though Watson’s eyes. The collection also includes some of the best turns of ingenuity in the series and, in fact, in all English literature.
His last bow (9789878354828)
During World War I, a young british soldier asked Arthur Conan Doyle what was he doing with Sherlock Holmes to help in war effort. That encounter is supposed to be the inspiration behind the story of “His Last Bow”, in which the detective cancelled his retirement in order to reunite with his loyal friend Dr. Watson for their very last challenge, unmasking a german spy. Seven additional stories, originally published in The Stand Magazine, relate previous episodes to the detective’s grand finale. “The Adventures of Bruce-Partington” also involve him in espionage, this time in a previous context and in relation to the recovery of stolen submarine planes. Other mysteries find Watson and Holmes chasing a deposed dictator, unraveling a passionate crime, tracking a syndicate of foreign criminals, mocking a poisoner, investigating the disappearance of a heiress, which interrupted her vacation in Cornualles to solve a diabolic case involving murder and madness.
